#13. (Michael's)

How do you celebrate (if you the celebrate) the 9th of May? What is your attitude to the fact that many people now consider this holiday (and not only this) as a reason to gather and drink?
This 9th May I celebrated in a strange form: a very loud noise awaked me after a good night. I recognized the parade sounds and remembered it's 9th May. To tell the truth, I don't feel strong emotions of this day; in ,y opinion, people celebrate it in the wrong way. For example, they could help the veterans or keep a silence for a minute. This holiday isn't so actual as it was when there was a veteran of this war in every family or in every house; for them it is/was a really important date. Nowadays for many people it's just a reason to drink, an extra free day. It's their choice what to do at 9th May,  for me the problem of hypocrisy is more significant: I saw a lot of congrats of  veterans on Facebook, VK (russian Facebook), Twitter and Instagram or on cars' windows like "Thank Grandfather for the victory" or "Thank veterans". Maybe people think, that it looks pretty, but it's awful.

  1. You are the only person whom I really agree with. I can't really say that I love watching parades and saluts, and I really can't understand people who post on their walls really patriotic messages which was created by some administrators of public pages in social networks. The most people I hate during these holidays is people who wear Georgiev lines everywhere and drink hard "for our national victory". If you are really proud of the past of your country, then do something real for it's veterans, not this showing off.

  2. I think that's the right attitude to take, especially since veterans of any wars often have problems in life.
