Have you ever thought about how is to live when you are retired? I read that the oldest woman on the Earth died when she was 116. That means that near a half of her life was an oldness. Also in 60's, when she became retired, most women didn't worked at all - they were housewives. Old have no jobs, no many conversations and a simple meaning of life. I think it's hard to realize that the society doesn't need you. When you work, you feel that something depends on you. The illnesses and old age pluse a feeling of a demise. They also provides dementia which a special treatment to all retired. It's a well known fact that old do not adapt to the new culture. Many things in mass media are not appropriative for them, so as the way of making business today. Many of them do not understand how to use the new gadjets. It's very scary to be retired.
Yes, it will get harder to get older. Your comment about the new gadgets made me remember a time when I showed my great aunt, who was about 98 at the time, a video on my digital camera, and it really kind of scared her. However, older people also have a lot of experience and wisdom to fall back on, so I don't think they're in all that bad a position.
ReplyDeleteI don’t think you should be afraid of old age. In any time moment your generation lives the same things, in your surroundings. No matter whether a person is young or not, he or she doesn’t feel lag from time. In 10 years we will hopelessly lag behind the 7-years-old first-graders. Yes, all your surrounding may go to the earth, possibly it is frightening. But to become unnecessary since you have been dismissed … is the sense of the Life is in work for SOMEONE, not in satisfying own needs?
ReplyDeleteI thought about it and came to the idea that everything depends on your relatives and you. If you, at the age of 50-60, try to be on the same way with new generation your life will not become just existence. If your relatives take care of you will not become a useless old man.
